I believe in the inevitability of death.
That is to say I believe death is non-negotiable, you can’t worm your way out of it. The grim reaper will come for each and every one of us at one point and there is no stopping him, no matter how hard you try. And side by side with my belief that death is an inevitable abyss, i also believe that we have a duty as human beings to try and enjoy our lives, however short they are. Because although death is coming, we should be more focused on how we live our lives.

I try to live my life day by day, trying to be the most decent person that I can be. I’m not perfect at it, but I’m doing the best I can. Living your life to the fullest doesn’t mean going to exotic places constantly and celebrating each day as if it’s your last. Sometimes it means taking care of yourself on a really hard day. Or taking the time to read your favourite book. Or going out to see friends that you haven’t seen in awhile. Or having dinner with your family. Or maybe even going to sleep at a decent time. Living your life to the fullest does not mean glamour and luxury, it means trying to make the best out of the day.
Because although death is creeping up to you slowly but surely, why not enjoy your days and try to make them good? For me, a pessimist with a mental illness, it is hard to see the good in things a lot of the time. My depression keeps my down and my pessimism pushes me further into the dark hole that I’m usually stuck in. But by living my life day by day and just trying to have a good day, I manage.
A lot of the time when I’m trying to live my life to the fullest, I am taking care of myself. That means doing basic things like eating 3 meals a day, getting a shower and getting to bed on time. And that may not seem so difficult but for me it’s stuff that I need to remind myself to do. Living my life to the fullest for me means prioritizing myself and just overall trying to be a decent person.
For others, it will probably be different. But trying to live your life to the fullest has no down sides. You try to enjoy every day as much as you possibly can and cherish the moments that make you happy. Living happily and being mindful of how you can better your life is always a good thing. There’s no avoiding death, so why not live your life?
